event
held at The Cube
on Friday 18th September. The event starts at 20:00.
This month Hellfire Video Club is addressing a glaring and important issue: We haven't screened any Kung Fu films yet, man! It's been often requested and we're excited to finally get round to it - but beware, we aren't showing any common-or-garden Kung-Fu flicks - we've sought out one of the most intensely bonkers ones made by the legendary Shaw Brothers film studio.
Shaw Brothers Studios made around 1000 (mostly martial arts) films between 1958 and 1987 included many hardcore classics of the genre, and introduced actors such as Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung to the world. Here at HFVC we like to dig around in the fringes, so we're screening one of their most delirious and insane offerings, the fantasy epic"BUDDHA'S PALM" (1982). The confused plot revolves around a jilted lover and his trusted pet dragon-dog attempting to learn the Palm technique to beat The Old Devil - but don't dwell on that, sit back and enjoy a brain-melting melee of lasers, fireballs, drumming wizards, giant feet and stretchy legs. Certainly one of the studios wildest efforts, this joyously playful yet deeply strange film has to be sen to be believed.
We are also VERY excited to have got hold of some original Shaw Bros trailers on 35mm to screen before the film. Don't miss it!
As always, HFVC DJs will be on hand in the bar playing appropriate world-wide-weirdness.
