Reggie Watts x CAPYAC playthecube: Touch, 4 Spoons Holding The Chair Akimbo at The Cube

A event held at The Cube on Friday 21st August. The event starts at 15:00.

"Touch, 4 Spoons Holding The Chair Akimbo"

The first, and first daytime show, of 4 shows developed in the Reggie Watts x CAPYAC playthecube week long residency at The Cube Microplex - open to children, but not a kids' show

The Lil Rascals that are the Californian absurdly funky and trippy trio CAPYAC (https://www.capyac.com) and the wildly improvisational comic, musician and actor phenomena that is REGGIE WATTS (https://www.reggie-watts.com) have been in residence at the Microplex for a week.

Together they will create 4 shows, each one different but with colourful portals and cunning asides that will melt the whole variety show together.

These most wonderful and unusual of international sensations, these real time audio visual sidesplitters are here to riff with The Cube - it’s workforce, it’s gear and it’s community.

Four shows but many moving parts.

Heads up - each show might contain skits, songs, levitating goats, walkabout, disco-ordinated djs, impromptu audience participation, scratch orchestras & dancing.

Reggie has been a longtime returning satellite to the Cube, with the run up to this residency being years in the making - first hoped for 14 years ago in fact!

CAPYAC visited the volunteer run art-space in 2024 and are bang into the whole funk infused concept. With a team of Cubic collaborators and special guests they are going to have an access-all-areas pass to the Microplex’s stage, trapdoors and infrastructure to send The Cube into bright novel territories at each performance. It’s your chance to bear witness. A limited edition, once in a lifetime opportunity. Unless time is really a loop and we spiral into crazy dimensions.

"From the moment I first experienced the Cube Microplex, I couldn’t stop imagining myself making something in that space. That’s why this residency excites me so much. The chance to gather a group of like-minded artists, weave in the Bristol community, and create something fun and of the moment that truly resonates where it lives. To be part of it, and to honor the city’s long lineage of world-changing art and artists. Bristol has a mystique and a vibe all its own, something you can’t quite put into words. Inspiration, friendship, and community." - REGGIE WATTS

playthecube is an in-house artist residency series. Previous artists include Good Bad Happy Sad, Heatsick, Liz Harris (Grouper), Eric Chenaux & Eric Cazdyn, Luke Fowler & Richard Youngs, BEEF and Alasdair Roberts with Tartine De Clous. As with all the playthecube sessions we open up a dialogue with an artist to see what could happen over a slowed down, in depth period at the Microplex if they came and stayed in Bristol. It's designed to give time to people to explore the spaces, specs and conditions unique to the Cube’s adventures, and do something distinctive creative with audience engagement and maybe a kind of crafted memo from their residency. This one is epic and intimate in one fell swoop.
