Bristol born politician and intuitive creative artist Cleo Lake, is driven by the idea of utilising creativity, dance and expanded performance to aid civic engagement and to reframe storytelling as a resilience tool to embed cultural knowledge, empathy, understanding and cohesion. Cleo is currently working on the collaborative ‘Citizens Researching Together’ programme on the strand : Decolonising Memory - Digital Bodies in Movement; is currently an actress with Sheba Soul Ensemble, Director of international arts organisation Black*Artists On The Move, Choreographer & film maker with newly formed Libations Dance Company, is a dance therapist and leads a weekly elders creative dance exercise class ‘Moving Words.’ Cleo has a degree in Dance from Bath Spa University and a foundation certificate in Dance Therapy.
‘Words have their place but sometimes words fail and words alone can’t shift aspects of our current reality. Dance has always been an integral part of collective expression, a way of documenting and making sense of the world, a way of cultivating group identity, healing and empowerment.’
