Kobanê is a historical war film about the Siege of Kobanê fought from October 2014 to January 2015 where both the People's Protection Units (YPG) and the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) defended the city against the Islamic State (ISIL). The film is directed by Özlem Yasar and produced by the Rojava Film Commune. The film focuses on the role of Kurdish women in the fighting who led much of the resistance during the siege.
Proceeds from the tickets sales will be sent to Heyva Sor a Kudistane (Kurdistan Red Crescent) is a humanitarian nonprofit organisation operating mainly in the North and East of Syria. It is the primary provider of medical care and aid for refugees who have fled from attacks by ISIL and the Syrian and Turkish governments.
