"The Cube’s Czech fever lasts well past Czechtember! In Václav Vorlíček’s classic fairytale adaptation, Cinderella is no meek housebound girl but a mischievous equestrian who hunts, flirts, and wields three magical acorns, aided by her clever owl Rozárka. Playful, wholesome, and radical, Three Wishes rewrites the Brothers Grimm with singular Czech wit and charm."

Three Wishes For Cinderella (Tři oříšky pro Popelku)
Dir. Václav Vorlíček, 1973, Czechoslovakia/East Germany, 89 min, language Czech with English subtitles, Cert PG
'Cheeks covered in ash, but no broom. Bow and arrow, but no hunter. Dress and veil, but no princess?'
One of the most beloved films in all Eastern European cinema, Václav Vorlíček's reworking of the classic Cinderella tale is a delightful take on the familiar fairy tale where a rebellious Cinderella - far from being some passive beauty - rides a horse, knows how to hunt and actively pursues her handsome Prince. When she comes across three magical acorns, aided by her owl friend, she’s granted a single wish for each one of them. With no fairy godmother, Cinderella herself decides what to do with the magic she comes across.
Shot on location around the famous Švihov Castle and the beautiful surrounding forests of Bohemia, Three Wishes For Cinderella features a remarkable central performance by the young Libuše Šafránková. It continues to be a festive favourite and a rare treat on the big screen!
Doors open 30 minutes before advertised start time. All film screenings are ad-free and start with no more than a 10 min selection of trailers.
