As a Cube tribute to the late Donald Sutherland, we present Philip Kaufman’s chilling 1970s update of the classic 1954 Cold War paranoia movie.
Kaufman takes the ‘reds under the bed’ sci-fi horror of the original and plants it firmly in the anxieties of its era. Donald Sutherland alongside Brooke Adams star as the first to suspect a horrifying truth: San Francisco is being infiltrated by pod people – emotionless alien duplicates that perfectly mimic their human counterparts. This remake of the 1956 film reflects the social and political unease of the late 70s, with themes of conformity, isolation, and the fear of a hidden enemy lurking beneath the surface. This is more than a remake and this thought-provoking film features physical in-camera special effects that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
