Crime & the City Solution, Joshua Murphy, Repo Man at The Cube
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"What!? Cube history in the making here…..A crazy intimate show (the smallest cap they’ve ever played?) for legendary cult Aussie swamp rockers Crime + The City Solution. Maybe best known for their revolving cast of members (inc prime movers behind the Birthday Party, Einstürzende Neubauten, Swell Maps, DAF). Expect sweeping, gothic art punk shot through with blues, jazz and country."

A gig held at The Cube on Saturday 25th November. The event starts at 19:30.

Crime & the City Solution playing at the Cube? Yes way! Originally formed in 1977 by Simon Bonney, then disbanded in 1979, a new version was formed in '85 including members of the recently deceased Birthday Party. With only one record since then, Simon has put together a new Solution with a brand new record out on Mute on vinyl, CD and download on 20 October 2023: https://mute.ffm.to/catcs_tk

The album, the killer was recorded in Berlin. Core members Simon Bonney and Bronwyn Adams were joined by Frederic Lyenn (Piano, Bass, Synth), Donald Baldie (Guitar), Georgio Valentino (Synth, Guitar), Chris Hughes (Drums, Percussion) and Joshua Murphy (Piano, Guitar), and for the first time they worked with a producer, the legendary Martin J. Fiedler, who also added Synth and Mellotron to the album.

Expect cinematic post punk, gothic country and rough blues rockers. Expect melancholy, joy and sadness. Expect a treat set in our little cinema.

Supporting we have Joshua Murphy (Crime & the City Solution) who's debut EP Lowlands crafts an almost Nick Cave sound, both somber and atmospheric in his storytelling. Beautiful music indeed.

ALSO supporting are Bristol's finest noise skronk merchants, Repo Man. Loud guitars, sax in your face with; is it intellectual lyrics? Who knows. Either way, with a new guitarist in the fold, and a whole added box of electronics, its gonna be mint. New album, Me Pop Now deserves a loud crank.
