Do You Have Peace? w / Roger Robinson + more at The Cube
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Inarguably the best dub poet this side of Linton Kwesi Johnson. Roger Robinson’s recently lent his heartbreaking words and voice to O$VMV$M’s blunted Bristol beatscapes. So it’s high time he wowed us at the Cube, with a special Jabu-related astral dub arkestra and Birthmark in tow. Heavenly."

A gig held at The Cube on Saturday 29th April. The event starts at 19:00.

Do You Have Peace? brings a night of eyes down soul muzak & echo chamber drum workouts to The Cube cinema.

Heading up the bill is singer / poet Roger Robinson, known for his work with King Midas Sound, Black Space Quartet & TS Eliot prize winning collection of poetry ‘A Portable Paradise’. On the night he’ll be performing with Amos Childs (Jabu / O$VMV$M), providing live on the fly dub mixes & alternate versions of their tracks together.

Also in the main room is Birthmark - fresh off the back of his ‘Lamentations’ record released this year via Cold Light. Expect tangles of wires, diffused drum rhythms, long delays & walls of low end to make the foundations rattle.

Finally in the cinema room is Bird of Peace Orchestra, a group made up of other performers on the night, featuring vocals from Roger Robinson, poet Daniela Dyson & Guest (Jabu / Young Echo / Space Afrika). As well as live drums machine / synth from Birthmark, guitar from Guest & all dubbed through the desk by A. Childs.

The bar will be powered all night by number 1 reggae sound system in BS4, Roots Radical with veteran selectors Andy Payback & D.Ham running through soul/lovers/etc & the mysterious DJ Dream Date to keep the vibes nice right through to the end.
