Czech filmmaker Klára Tasovská’s debut feature about photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková is a formally inventive and deeply personal film which was one of our top picks from this year's Berlinale. We are thrilled to finally be able to bring it to the Cube's big screen.
Made in close collaboration with Jarcovjáková and exclusively resorting to her photographs and diary entries, I’m Not Everything I Want to Be explores the photographer’s search for identity and emotional journey. The film recounts Jarcovjáková’s personal and political struggles of being an artist and a queer woman in 1960s Czechoslovakia, in Tokyo in the 1970s and 1980s, and in West Berlin before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
“This film is as much a tribute to the artistic process and curiosities of a photographer as it is a revealing portrait of her existence, forming an unconventional but deeply moving coming-of-age story.”
