BEEF Labs at The Cube

A event held at The Cube on Thursday 15th December. The event starts at 20:00.

BEEF Labs present an evening of experimental practice focussed on photochemical film processes by members of BEEF and close associates. Expect a rich and wide-ranging selection of works from over 10 artists, including films shot on 8mm, 16mm and 35mm created with and without using a camera. The programme will encompass techniques such as developing film using eco-friendly processes, films made directly with plants and mould, to the subversion and re-appropriation of found footage and live performance incorporating multiple projections. The evening will be surrounded by lively, creative discussion with many of the artists present to discuss their work… with DJs at the bar.

BEEF Labs was set up in 2020 by members of the collective to support experimental film practice in the collective and beyond. The group is dedicated to skill sharing, preservation of resources and equipment in photochemical practices. BEEF LAB have started compiling a comprehensive internal system of knowledge sharing including LAB members attending numerous workshops and courses, to feed into our collective knowledge.

This event is part of BEEF programme Conspirators of Perception
A series of films by invited guest curators or ‘conspirators’, sit alongside work from BEEF members to challenge perceptions of cinema. The programme spans a breadth of experimental film, from documentary, animation and DIY to film lab practices.

The second part of the BEEF Presents programme will be announced later in the year and will include workshops by invited artists and BEEF members that explore the possibilities of analogue film, and provide opportunities for artists in the city to learn analogue film techniques and processes to inform a broader exploration of experimental arts practices.

This programme is supported by WEVAA and funded by Arts Council England.
