A
gig
held at The Cube
on Thursday 17th July. The event starts at 20:00.
Improv’s Greatest Hits is a night and fluid collective using
improvised music as a vehicle to mix musical and social scenes.
Blurring subculture lines, debuting new artists + collaborations
on the regular
A new collaboration between Harry ‘Iceman’ Furniss on
cornet + guitarist Steven Watson. Abstract but also melodic;
by turns calm and intense. A quick tag between composition
and improvisation, explored in a rare partnership of instruments
They have recently recorded an album with Evo Ethel
Harry is a Bristol alt scene vet, instigator of new
scenes, champion of new artists and ubiquitous
collaborator to many local old, new +& present acts
including this year Minor Conflict / Ex Agent / Mould
Glaxo Babies & Lucy Gooch. Blurring genre lines with
groups such as Bingo Fury, in various incarnations he
has supported innovators like The Fall, James Chance,
Keith Tippett + The Ex to name a few plus played with
legends such as Damo Suzuki and Lee Ranaldo
Steve is wizard of textures, superseding the sounds of a regular
guitar. His melodic lines weave angular angles that match fully
engaged upper torso movements. Taking equal inspiration for
example from the jazz of Bill Frisell / classical guitar
arrangements of Frederic Mompou + the CBGBness
of Television, he wrestles all down to a beautiful pulp.
This baritone guitar -and-drums duo is annoyingly—crooked
yet precise. Their improvisations unfold with a punk/jazz ethos
with delicate moments that echo the rustling of unseen things.
Chris Langton ( Snazzback / Zoobers etc ) and Micheal Gianan
have been working on their improvisational edge to crafted
works and destroying them over and over again
Chris + Micheal also run avant jam Outer Edges at The Love Inn
Heathling is a London-based project made up of harpist
and singer Anna McLuckie and flautist Gail Tasker ( For
Breakfast / MF Tomlinson ) Using the intimacy of the duo
setting as a launchpad, they explore the old tunes of
Scotland, Ireland and Wales via improvisation,
experimental electronics, and anti-genre leanings.
