An uplifting documentary that offers painful, hopeful, heartfelt celebration of Intersex life in a binary world. Director Tunde Scovran travels to South Africa to follow two intersex people with parallel but divergent lives: Sharon-Rose Khumalo, a beauty queen who suffers an identity crisis after finding out she’s intersex, and Dimakatso Sebidi, a male-presenting intersex activist who is in many ways Khumalo’s polar opposite.
Preceding the film, young artist Kialy Thingang (New Narratives commission) will be presenting her short animation 'Toghu'. "Many Cameroonians see queerness as an unfavourable foreign import; with this in mind, I have been galvanised to archive the intersection of Cameroonian identity and queer identity, to challenge the harmful narrative that the two do not occur naturally, regularly, and beautifully".
