Giving you a night of roots, dub, hip hop, jungle, afro-beat, breaks, ska and ELECTRO SWING!!
Medicinal Sounds is back, once again showcasing the very best in new and local live music. Working together with Babylon Festivals we have opted for a minor break with tradition and booked'Kitten & the Hip' who are a brilliant live"Electro Swing" band fresh out of Brighton.
Electro Swing?? What's that I hear you say? Well if you didn't already know it's an emerging genre fusing 1920's swing with electronic beats and bass lines. Electro Swing is becoming increasingly popular across the UK fueled by tracks like'Get a Move on' by Mr Scruff and with bands like Caravan Palace headlining Boomtown festival and also playing at Trinity next month. We thought it was high time to jump on the bandwagon and introduce a little extra flavor of Electro Swing to Bristol.
With vocals from the gorgeous Kitten Quinn, a full live band featuring an outstanding horn section and the writing and production skills of"the Hip', Ashley Slater of Freak Power fame, this band are set to go stratospheric! Ashley previously worked with Norman Cook who later became Fat Boy Slim! After a summer of stella performances at some of the UK's best music festivals we are very excited to have bagged them to headline our Medicinal Sounds 1st Birthday!
We launched our first Bristol event at The Croft one year ago and now after a string of sell out nights at'The Lanes' we are proud to be hosting our 1st Birthday party at the exciting new venue'The Exchange'. From the same team who run'The Croft' , 'The Exchange' is a complete refurb from the former club (Castro's) and has been fitted out with a comprehensive live sound specification including acoustic treatment in both live rooms for superb sound. The scale and professionalism of this venue set it apart from similar spaces in the city and we feel it is sure to become Bristol's new seminal live music destination.
In addition to our headline act we have the insanely zany but utterly brilliant"Dr Jive Fish PhDJ" spinning Electro Swing in the main room with spellbinding live improvised violin by"Clovis Sangraal" sure to get the party swinging!
Babylon Underground are smashing up room two with seasoned Bristol DJ's such as AbombAnation, Ambisinister and M Booth fusing Ragga Jungle, Reggae, Roots, Ska, Dub, Drum & Bass and Techno.
At only £5 on the door & £4 before 11pm this night is going to be a banger so don't sit at home, get on your glad rags and come and celebrate our 1st Birthday party with us at The Exchange.
