Course description
Awaken your creativity, ignite your imagination, and discover the remarkable world of Surface Pattern and Textile Design with this introductory course.

Explore nature, the built environment, magazines, and the World Wide Web, to find inspiration and generate ideas through mood boards and sketchbooks.

Gain an understanding of different motif styles; for instance, florals, geometrics, or abstracts, and use printmaking techniques to create a series of one of a kind repeating designs onto fabric. Once created, patterns have all kinds of applications around the home or as fashion on clothing and accessories.

We supply fabric for samples and a mini collection and encourage students to bring other materials for printing onto. Natural fibres in light colours such as plain white cotton or linen give the best results.

Please bring masking tape; craft knife and cutting mat; pencil and sketchbook; 3 x 37ml tubes of good quality acrylic paint in assorted colours; a folder or bag to carry work home in.
