See event details

A event held at Bristol Folk House on Sunday 1st June. The event starts at 14:00.

Queer folks! Please join us in PRIDE and JOY as an act of RESISTANCE - connecting, creating and celebrating at the next Bristol Queer Pottery event during Pride Month. Absorb the deeply therapeutic qualities of clay and learn how to make beautiful colourful tiles, inscribed with your personal, joyful, and affirming messages about your queerness and your queer community!

Your tiles will be proudly showcased in the Bristol Folk House PRIDE Art Exhibition for 5 weeks. helping to radiate queer love and solidarity out into the world. After this, your tiles will be ready to take home as a memento.

Everything you need to complete the workshop will be provided. All you need to bring is your divine self.

Bristol Queer Pottery Socials are run by queer ceramic artist and pottery tutor, Jasmine (she/they). She has been making pottery professionally for a decade and teaching pottery classes for 6 years. Jasmine has a background in Psychotherapy and with this she is able to hold a safe and welcoming space for you to express yourself through clay. If you'd like to know more about Jasmines work check out:

The workshop has been made as affordable as possible, whilst still covering expenses and paying the facilitator a fair wage. Ticket options are tiered - please select an option you can comfortably afford :)

FAQs:

How many people are in this workshop?

12 person maximum capacity.

When can I take my pottery home?

Once your pottery has dried out and been fired twice, it will be displayed in the Folk House Pride Art Exhibition from the end of June and will be ready to collect at the end of July, once the Pride Art exhibition is finished.

Can I use my pottery for serving food and drink?

Yes. Everything you make will be food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe, unless otherwise stated. All pottery will be fired to stoneware temperature, which means it will be durable and suitable for everyday use.

Is there parking and bike storage?

You can find nearby pay and display parking at College Green Car Park or on Sundays there are some streets off White Ladies Road with free parking. There are plenty of bike racks to lock your bike to at Bristol Folk House entrance and courtyard. If you come by bus, any busses that stop on Park Street or Centre Broad Quay are within minutes walking distance to Folk House.

What do I wear?

Wear something comfortable and that you don't mind getting a little dirty. You are welcome to bring an apron.

Is there disability access?

Unfortunately, there is no current wheelchair access at the Folk House. Building works have commenced to extend the building to make room for a wheelchair lift and this will be finished within a year (estimation). Deepest apologies to all those affected by the current lack of wheel chair access. I look forward to the change happening.
