Elsie Rhymes Poetry Party

Elsie Rhymes Poetry Party at Bristol Folk House

An event held at Bristol Folk House on Thursday 3rd December. The event starts at 19:45.

Elsie Rhymes' Poetry Party is a seasonal poetry event hosted by me, Elsie Rhymes. For the winter edition we have an exciting performance by Dr Edson Burton. Edson is a prolific writer of audio, live drama and poetry. Edson won the 2025 Tinniswood Prize for Man Friday, an adaption of Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. His previous audio dramas include the acclaimed R4 series Deacon starring Don Warrinston.
Recent live work includes the listening journey Duppy Hunter produced by Tamasha Theatre, and the theatrical promenade Destination 0ld Market. He is the author of the poetry collections, Seasoned and Witness. He is a member of Writers Mosaic the film collective, Come the Revolution, a board member of Lyra poetry festival and Afrika Eye film festival.

We also welcome back our party hero Geoffrey Breeze!
Poetry made flesh! Beat poet Geoffrey Breeze delivers an electric combination of spoken word and rock and roll. His work explores class, desire, love, loss, ageing and the absurdities of English life. Tragic and comic poems written for the stage and fearlessly delivered with accompanying guitar vibes from the Mad Axeman.

Laura Briscoe (aka Elsie Rhymes) has written poetry throughout her life. Full of humanity and often tinged with nostalgia, her poems conjure scenes from country and city life, exploring love and grief. Her writing creates evocative landscapes for both the heart and the imagination. Laura performs at open mic events across Bristol and her poetry is regularly featured on BBC radio, where her work was selected as a 2025 favourite. In 2026, she launched her Poetry Parties giving poets a welcoming platform to share their work in the cosy Folk House Café. Her next project is a poetry festival for 2027.

Come in out of the cold and warm yourselves with some poetry and socialising, lovely bar with drinks and snacks in the Café.
