A
gig
held at The Gallimaufry
on Tuesday 28th November. The event starts at 21:00.
Comprised of the inseparable songwriting duo of Elliot Ellison Holder and William Domonic Wells, Tamasene grew from a pot of delicate songs that did not belong in the duos psychedelic project Cousin Kula (Rhythm Section Intl Signees), but deserved their own platform to breathe and be shared with the world.
Born of musical parents with (Elliot's father playing in Cast & Echo & The Bunnymen and Will brought up playing church gospel music) their paths were joined on the sun kissed south coast of England, where Elliot and Will cut their teeth as teenagers gigging and touring together in indie, folk and rock outfits before moving to Bristol.
Tamasene draws from the strong contemporary influences of Andy Shauf, Whitney, Mac Demarco, Connan Mockasin and Faye Webster whilst also mirroring flavours of the preceding but timelessly influential Nick Drake and John Martyn.
The debut album ‘Hangin’ in or Hangin’ Out’, comprises twelve songs, and is an incredibly bold first, taking the listener on a journey through themes of love lost and found, drunken fathers, friends at house parties, addiction and much more. The album features a tapestry of string arrangements that weave like silk throughout the twelve track LP arranged by Bethany Ley. Mixed by Douglas Cave, ‘Hangin’ in or Hangin’ Out’ is an unmissable debut due for release in 2023.
Energised by the initial live success of the project, and even before the debut release, the duo are currently finishing writing the follow up second album.
