This week:

// HIPPO //

Hippo thrives in the hinterland between jazz and electronica. Bursting with buoyant melodies and the adrenal energy of a band stretching their shows to the edge of possibility, the trio continues to make a colossal sound far beyond what their three-piece stature should permit.

Saxophones, synthesisers and drums go in, Hippo comes out.

“There's only 3 of them, but it sounds humongous"
BBC Radio 3 - Jazz Now

"Wow! Absolutely loving that - that was kind of a bit odd but kind of beautiful at the same time and melodic but also kind of quite jarring, kind of a wonderful cacophony of different stuff actually"
BBC Introducing in the West

“Mind-spinning Jazz Futurism... it’s exciting to see so much support for Hippo’s energetic combination of virtuosic improvisation and live electronics.” Fresh on the Net

Their EP was made for sweaty dancefloors… but respectfully. It’s pretty dope. Nextbop

“The dense mix builds to serious climaxes to match their serious musicianship… they keep it just this side of madness” Supreme Standards

“Hippo then cranked things up with flairs of electro-psych and dream-like chord sequences meshing, culminating in a great interstellar beast. It was a full-on frenzy, leaving its mark.”
Bristol In Stereo

“Impressive jazz minimalism” Bris 24/7

“Floor filling, rhythmic jazz magic” Cosmogramma
