A gig held at The Golden Lion on Friday 25th September. The event starts at 20:00.
Bristol based BIMM Alumni Joey Gardiner proclaimed that “early 1975 vibes” was the aim, and a main and clear influence on the body of work he was set to write.
Whilst the conventions and feel of young, indie bedroom pop are there, the rule breaking shines through as his catalogue takes on a more rough and ready rock like feel with a nod to some darker subjects, touching upon mental health and addiction.
In early 2023, Joey caught the attention of Adam Crowther from BBC Radio Bristol, where he landed track of the week with the single ‘Dirty Cigarette’. The additional exposure led to Joey being invited to record a live set for BBC Bristol, performing eight of his own songs and a cover of Prince's 'Purple Rain'. Adam goes on to say “Joey has a very bright future ahead of him and it has been amazing to have you in for this week. An artist I have been really excited to see here in the studio for a long time, certainly one to watch”
Having played a handful of live shows around the UK, Adam Crowther declared that Joey Gardiner was “Discovered Here” on BBC upload, which led to an inclusion on the BBC Uploads Big New Sound 2023.
Following a period of writing, Joey returned with the single ‘Calling’, which sparked live and radio support from Jodie Bryant, with her “Discover Live” event and a premiere for the single on Voices Radio. Which was followed up with a “First Play” with James Threlfall on BBC Introducing.
