Holy Popes + I Am Drug + Belle Royals at The Golden Lion
£5

A gig held at The Golden Lion on Sunday 28th April. The event starts at 19:00.

HOLY POPES
Inaugurated by Poppi Knight and drummer Luke Bujniewicz in 2020, Bristol's HOLY POPES emerged with a raw and assertive debut that delves into the gritty, distorted realms of their sound. The band’s moniker itself hints at a paradoxical reflection on societal constructs, challenging oppressive systems with music as their weapon. Poppi Knight’s fervor for dismantling fascism and bigotry resonates through their music, driving a call to dance amidst the overthrow of harmful ideologies.
Initially forming as a two-piece to merely create noise, the addition of bass player Jake Beckett (later replaced by Liam Dowling) catalyzed a transformative evolution into all that is HOLY POPES

I AM DRUG
I AM DRUG are building a fearsome reputation on the S. Wales toilet circuit with their explosive, unpredictable & energetic freak show. They hold a mirror to their audience & reflect back a distorted, fractured vision of their wildest fantasies & deepest fears.
They offer a ‘Rare Sacrament in the age of sterile, anodyne, business plan muzak'. In fact, when I.A.D. flex their collective muscle it’s the aural equivalent of being witness to a 3-way mash-up of The Stooges, The Jesus Lizard, and Joy Division. Pure, unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll noise!!! As the potent brew of sledgehammer subtleties and featherweight fury erupts Christian Sargent (the band's shamanic howler) is slave to the sonic assault.

BELLE ROYALS
With members from Tyneside and Wiltshire and forming in Bristol in 2019, Belle Royals are a noiserock/experimental outfit mixing instrumentation and sampling and lyrically a hotchpotch of satire, in-joke, cultural referencing, oddball obsessions, improvisation and cut-outs. Belle Royals debut album will be released by Cruel Nature Records in April.

Entry requirements: 14+, any under 18s accompanied by 21+ adult 1:1 ratio
