on Sunday 8th September. The event starts at 20:00.
On Sunday 8 Sept, Cuculi Presents new London-based dreamfolk project Something Sleeps at The Greenbank to celebrate the release of their self-titled debut album (due out 6 Sept), with support from local favourite Lou Byrd.
Something Sleeps is a new collaboration between old friends and stalwart songwriters Fiona Fey and Rey Yusuf (formerly of Tell Tale Tusk), joined by violinist Monica Viñoly and cellist Josh Considine. Their debut album is a captivating 11-track collection of original material written by Fey & Yusuf alongside traditional songs reimagined with shrewdly updated lyrics, resulting in a satisfying juxtaposition of sublime folk musicianship, intimate storytelling, and uncompromising political candour. With their flair for emotive melodies and pithy lyrics, Something Sleeps are undoubtedly writing contemporary contributions to the classic folksong canon, while embodying the same self-defining DIY attitude of their peers in the wider UK alt-folk scene.

SOMETHING SLEEPS
London based dream-folk band “Something Sleeps” features songwriters Fiona Fey and Rey Yusuf, known for their vocal harmonies and emotionally provocative lyrics. Intricately flowing songs in four part vocal harmony wind their way through soulful string arrangements by Monica Viñoly (Violin) and Josh Considine (Cello). With a warm and playful sense of humour they entertain with their on stage antics.
The ensemble add their distinctive voices to modern day folk song, penning socially conscious original material. Something Sleeps continue the tradition of using folk song to protest and question the status quo.
Guitarist and songwriter from the rugged Jurassic Coast of Dorset. Lou writes exploratory songs that weave together folk roots, jazz harmony and laid-back lyricism. The resulting tapestry recalls Nick Drake, Herbie Hancock, Linda Perhacs, Caetano Veloso, moving nimbly through diverse and verdant musical landscapes.
