On Saturday May 21st 2022, Elliot Leaver turned 30. To celebrate, he did something he'd wanted to do for a long time, and put on a gig; thus, 'Three Decades of Drawing Breath' was born. It went so well, he figured he might as well do a second one for good measure.
This year, witness hard rock heavyweights Land Captains, melodic thrash metal upstarts Panic Switch and alt pop newbies FUBAR play one of the UK's most beloved heavy metal venues, not only to commemorate Elliot's continuing adventures around the sun, but also to raise money for the phenomenal Sophie Lancaster Foundation and brilliant Mermaids.
In 2007, the metal world was rocked by the senseless murder of 20 year old Sophie Lancaster simply because she was a goth. In the years that have followed, her mother Sylvia tirelessly campaigned to keep her daughter's memory alive, those responsible in prison and spread the message of stamping out prejudice, hate and intolerance everywhere. Sadly, Sylvia herself passed away last year, but the Foundation she gave life to lives on and is one of Elliot's most dear charities. In addition, it was the favoured cause of the late, great Jake Ettle-Iles, who played the initial Three Decades... with his band Cybervoid, giving more weight to S.O.P.H.I.E's inclusion.
Since 1995, Mermaids UK has been tirelessly supporting transgender, non-binary and gender diverse children and young people, along with their parents. Elliot's heart has been set on trans rights in recent times, not least because, in 2023, it is a travesty that people are still being persecuted around the world for being their true selves. Elliot has spoken with his friends in the LGBTQ+ community and, with their help, has chosen Mermaids to be supported at the show.
Each charity will receive exactly 50% of the ticket sales; there isn't a cut for any other element of the show itself, from bands to the venue. So come on down, have a laugh, a few beers and let's rock!
