EAT, MAKE, SHARE: EASTON PEOPLE’S COUNCIL

Join us for a welcoming evening of food, creativity and conversation exploring local democracy, community power and the future of Easton.

We’ll share a vegetarian and vegan meal, meet people from across the neighbourhood and take part in accessible creative activities. No previous knowledge or creative experience is needed—just an interest in your community.

SEPTEMBER’S THEME: WHO HOLDS THE POWER?

Democracy is more than voting every four years—it is something we can practise together.

People who live in a neighbourhood often understand its needs better than anyone else. Yet when something needs changing, residents can face slow processes, repeated requests and decisions made far away from the people most affected.

ABOUT EASTON PEOPLE’S COUNCIL

This meetup is being developed with Easton People’s Council, an emerging resident-led initiative seeking to bring meaningful decision-making closer to the people of Easton.

The long-term vision is to create an urban community council: a democratic structure through which local people can influence decisions, organise around shared concerns and take practical action.

WHAT WILL WE DO?

We’ll begin by exploring questions including:

* What comes to mind when you think about power?
* Who currently has influence in our community?
* When have you felt powerful or powerless?

We’ll consider how power can come through participation, organisation and collective action—not only through individuals or established institutions.

CREATIVE GROUP ACTIVITY

Working in small groups, we’ll imagine a neighbourhood structure that helps people feel powerful, respected and able to contribute.

The activities will help us ask: what would a local organisation feel like if residents were not simply passive users of a service, but were invited to shape and lead it?

Eat, Make, Share meetups explore how communities can become more resilient by supporting one another and responding to change together.

Each month, we explore a different subject—including energy, water, race, faith, identity, economics and food—through shared meals, conversation and creativity.

The sessions are structured, welcoming and low-pressure. We make sure everyone has an opportunity to participate, and you can engage in whatever way feels comfortable.
