Blindfolded Contact Improvisation Jam at The Hideout Bristol, Unit 2, White Street, St Judes, Bristol, BS5 0TS
See event details

A event on Sunday 15th December. The event starts at 19:00.

A deep mid-winter dance.

By removing the sense of sight, we are invited to rely on our other senses - touch, listening, and proprioception (the sense of where your body is in space) - to navigate the dance. Inviting us into a deep state of presence, trusting our body to guide us while attuning to ourselves and the bodies of others. Dancing blindfolded uncovers new and authentic ways of moving with ourselves and with others. Come and imerse yourself with us into a deep mid winter dance in the darkness.

Participating in a blindfolded jam requires a certain level of trust and vulnerability, which can be both challenging and rewarding. We aim to make the environment as safe as possible.

Jocasta Crofts will be guiding us through this journey from waking up the eyes, how we then close them and begin to trust the’eyes’ we have all over our body. Learning to deepen into our other senses, soft feeling and intuition will guide us into a deep mid winter dance in the darkness. Jocasta, also known as Shanti is an experienced contact improvisation teacher, a Body Mind Centering practitioner and a mother. Shanti is intuitive, playful, a tribal gatherer and a little bit witchy.

Live music: Ian Popperwell was (musically) fortunate to be a teenager through the 1970s with such a richness of music, experimentation, production and the growing emergence of electronic instruments. He has played soprano and tenor saxophones, and flute in various Bristol bands over the last 25 years (notably Eastpole Orchestra and The Message), and modular and hardware synthesisers as a solo performer (combining electronic soundscapes with processed flute) as well as with fellow collaborator/synthesist Simon Metson in Anechoics. Ian has played regularly over many years with Bristol Contact Improvisation Group. He uses drones, repeating musical patterns, spacious soundscapes and explores real and electronic space with his instruments. His music is largely improvised.

Organizer: Edwina Pereira is a dancer, contact improvisation teacher and massage therapist. She will be organizing the event and making sure the experience is nourishing for all.
