BUBBLEGUM HYPNOSIS+ CHOIR OF THE SUN at The Lanes
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Free entry! Bristol’s most batshit ammo in the garage-fuzz stoner prog cannon, fresh from a righteous and well-deserved slot supporting arch-psychonauts Acid Mother’s Temple. Bubblegum Hypnosis’ all-out assault of world-destroying riffage and gonzoid Zappa-esque turns is truly indispensable FFO: King Gizzard, King Crimson, Sabbath, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Thee Oh Sees. Bubblegum Hypnosis • www.instagram.com/bubblegumhypnosis

Insistent upon experimentation and improvisation, Bubblegum Hypnosis’ music traverses the sonical landscape, carrying their listeners on an explosive journey of excitement and intensity. Sometimes dirty, sometimes clean; Sometimes reggae, sometimes mean - their music takes influence from a variety of artists, styles and sounds, whilst embodying the anything goes attitude of both prog and psych rock. Notable past shows include opening for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Acid Mothers Temple & Temples.

Their second album Through the Sands (Released via Stolen Body Records) represents a maturing with regards to songwriting whilst also maintaining their passion for excitement. Through the core of the first four tracks runs an eastern psych influence, taking different forms from the explosive, thunderous, and thrash infused passages of ‘Shaitan’s Sword’ to the prog inspired riffs of ‘Through the Sands’ and ‘Pillars of Infinity’. This journey culminates in the album's closer; a 16 minute entirely improvised journey of all the band represents and aptly named ‘Bubblegum Hypnosis’.

Bristol's stoner-doom and Psychedelic Rock heavyweights, Choir of the Sun, have stormed onto the scene with their self-released debut album, Dawn—and it’s an absolute belter.

Channeling the spirit of Black Sabbath, All Them Witches, and Hawkwind, Dawn delivers a sound that feels both familiar and exhilaratingly fresh. The riffs are thick and immersive, the grooves hypnotic, and the atmosphere cosmic yet crushing.

If you’re a fan of heavy, psychedelic, doom-infused bliss, Dawn is essential listening.
