Isolated Youth make a triumphant return after a four-year hiatus with their latest single, ‘Psykosoma’ set for release on March 29th. This eagerly awaited track serves as the initial glimpse into their debut album, ‘Miserere Mei’.

Described by producer Max Heyes as a “face-melting song” with a synth hook like a “messed up ice cream truck,” ‘Psykosoma’ delivers on all fronts. Featuring slightly gritty vocals, intense guitar riffs, and drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as Nina Simone, Robert Johnson, and Biblical literature, it offers a captivating experience for every listener. Conceived in a studio nestled beside a forested graveyard, 'Psykosoma' is steeped in the eerie ambiance of its origins, drawing from the gothic and ghostly atmosphere. With its haunting chorus of ethereal backing vocals complementing frontman Axel Mårdberg's velvety voice and explorations of psychosomatic themes, the song leaves a lingering impression reminiscent of its haunting birthplace.

During a leisurely dog walk, guitarist William Mårdberg found himself struck by a sudden inspiration—a riff that demanded his immediate attention. Racing home, he deftly re-tuned his guitar to a Robert Johnson tuning, and the song effortlessly flowed forth from his fingertips. With a stroke of synchrony, William's brother Axel swiftly concluded the composition on a piano within a mere 15 minutes. Their connection runs deeper than familial bonds; it extends into a harmonious musical partnership where their spirits seamlessly intertwine.

The Swedish band said of the track, “Thematically, ‘Psykosoma’ delves into the protagonist’s struggles and the inevitable confrontation with personal demons in perceived safe havens, yet it also embodies an esoteric and hopeful psychedelic essence. This duality traces back to the blues influences in guitar tuning and beyond. The overarching themes of the album draw loose inspiration from Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman,” reimagined with modern elements like industrial drum patterns and unconventional synthesizers.”

'Psykosoma' serves as our initial glimpse into what Isolated Youth's debut album 'Miserere Mei' has to offer. Written during the pandemic, the recording process was fraught with challenges, including isolation periods and frequent testing. Nonetheless, Isolated Youth found support from co-producers The Horrors frontman Faris Badwan, and Max Heyes, renowned for his collaborations with artists like Primal Scream and Rolling Stones. With their guidance, Isolated Youth successfully cultivated a post-punk/alternative rock sound reminiscent of bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Joy Division, and Iceage, matching the electrifying intensity they bring to their live performances.

Isolated Youth are known for the environment they create at their gigs. Their familiarity with innovation, intensity, compelling melodies and powerful hooks result in a ghostly atmosphere that can excite crowds in intimate clubs as well as festival stages. Their genre-transcending influences and emotional force create a unique style that captivates any audience.

Isolated Youth’s highly anticipated return ‘Psykosoma’ will be available across all major streaming platforms starting 29th March.
