"Sell out warning! Transcendental dirge-metal group Shearling (spiritually descended from Sprain) are shifting tectonic monoliths of sludge feedback, glitch, sledgehammer percussion and Scott Walker wails. HAAL thread gothic hallucination through industrial-rock dread, and Allarme summon psych-noise odysseys from the void. Unmissable triple bill FFO: Harvey Milk, Liturgy, Slint in space, Nine Inch Nails."

A
gig
held at The Lanes
on Tuesday 9th September. The event starts at 20:00.
Serving as a spiritual continuation of the now-defunct Sprain, Shearling exhibits the reunion of a now decade-old collaborative force between guitarists Alexander Kent and Sylvie Simmons. A subsequent recruiting of percussionist Andrew Chanover, bassist Wesley Nelson, and Keyboardist Elizabeth Carver filled out their orchestrally-minded roster. The band was mostly quiet for its first year of existence, avoiding live performances to instead focus on their brazen debut ‘Motherfucker, I am Both: “Amen” and "Hallelujah"…’ The record retains Sprain’s characteristic commitment to intensity, further mutated through a newfound lens of collagist approach.
Bristol’s HAAL fuse post-rock, metal, trip-hop and industrial noise into an immersive, psychotropic live experience—combining home-crafted pedals, sampling, and cinematic visuals. Their debut EP Back to Shilmarine earned acclaim from CVLT Nation, Total Guitar and Alternative Press, with airplay from BBC Radio 6’s Jamz Supernova and praise from Thurston Moore. Following shows with Butch Kassidy, DITZ, Deliluh and Water From Your Eyes, plus slots at ArcTanGent, Dot to Dot and more, HAAL are fast becoming cult fixtures on the UK scene. For fans of Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Massive Attack, and Björk.
Post-punk, psychedelia, and entrancing noise. Walls of guitar feedback, wild sax and broken, stumbling rhythms. Such is the recipe for Allarme. Hailing from Warsaw, Poland, the eclectic quartet keeps coming up with new ways of implementing ear-piercing noise in their varied compositions, whether they're the punk-infused tracks on their 2024 debut LP, or the more elaborate and emotionally charged songs on their upcoming album, Bruit.
