IDEAL LIVING + BARBICAN + STANDTOORDER at The Lanes
Headfirst Editor's Pick

"Free entry / PWYC! Local art-rock five-piece Ideal Living wobble delightfully all over the place, touching on klezmer, chamber music, and jazz in slow-motion implosions of drum machines, feverish sax and serrated guitars. Psycho-sonic mania FFO: The Birthday Party, Tyler the Creator, Black Country New Road, The Fall."

IDEAL LIVING • www.instagram.com/ideallivingband

After the release of their debut EP at the beginning of 2025, which gained recognition from local and national press and received airplay on BBC Radio 6 with Huw Stephens and Deb Grant, Ideal Living have continued to attract audiences for their captivating and charismatic live performance. The dynamics of raging highs and subtle lows used within the songs are used to demonstrate the imbalance of modern life. The five piece art rock outfit draw influence from Leonard Cohen, Tapir!, LCD Soundsystem, Tyler the Creator and The Birthday Party. They continue to work on the progress and adaption their sound, adding elements of drum sequences, guitars, synthesisers, flutes and saxophones.

BARBICAN • www.instagram.com/barbicantheband

Barbican, a Bristol based post-punk quintet, channels the influence of CAN, Leonard Cohen and The Fall into a powerful sonic experience characterised by hypnotic riffs and Motorik drumbeats. Their angry, poetic vocals and dynamic soundscapes create a transportive and theatrical live show, often compared to the high energy performances of Fugazi and Rage Against the Machine. With a compelling mix of audio spectacle and social commentary, Barbican delivers memorable hooks and an unforgettable presence that captivates and engages audiences.

STANDTOORDER • www.instagram.com/standtoorder_collective

StandToOrder, are post-rock collective hailing from Bristol. They create a live performance of pounding guitars to noisy ambience over frantic lyrics and carefully collected textures and samples. Starting as a uni project started in 2023 the collective takes on a new shape after sometime away from the stage.
