Whilst in the process of building a studio in north east London with some close friends and fellow musicians, formerly branded "languid R&B/bedroom producer" Laurie Erskine, aka Club Kuru, experimented with some new sounds. Sharing a collective love of 60's and 70's American RnB, soul music melodies and 7" 45s breaks, the new post romantic incarnation of Club Kuru was born.
All self-written, recorded and produced, Club Kuru in its revived formation is best described as having the backbone of Shuggie Otis, the head of Serge Gainsbourg, and the cinematic aura of Vangelis, though modern day references might be more aligned with the likes of Tame Impala, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Connan Moccasin.
The single 'Not For Me' is out now digitally, and will be the first in a string of new material to be previewed over the coming months. Club Kuru will also be showcasing their very special live show.
Club Kuru is:
...Laurie Erskine (lead vocals/synths)
...Graham Godfrey (drums)
...Ferg Ireland (bass)
...Jess Berry (backing vocals/synths)
...Laurence Hammerton (guitar)
