A midwinter rite to prepare for the unique challenges of the year to come. The first in an occasional series featuring audiovisual disturbance from the Flag Fen project and music from some very special guests.

Flag Fen

(Phase Two implementation)

Bioelectrical resistance project being developed by obscure West Country musicians following a life-changing encounter. Adam Burrows (electronics, guitar) and Keith Hall (drums), both previously of noise-beat outfit Big Joan, begin their second phase of activity with the assistance of friends and colleagues.

The Hysterical Injury

(Bristol single launch)

Joyous noise-pop duo The Hysterical Injury FINALLY return to the live arena on the back of new video single ‘Mother Rain’. Taken from their impatiently awaited new album 'Life Death Life' (their first release since 2015’s spectacular 'Blood Burst' EP), the video was conceived by singer-bass player Annie Gardiner, directed by Matt Loveridge (MXLX, Fairhorns, ex-Beak>) and filmed and edited by Chris Nicholls (Age Decay, Oh The Guilt) of Soft Geometry.

The Hysterical Injury have been circling the music scene like the rings of Saturn since 2007. The band, which consists of Annie and drummer sibling Tom, have played more than 400 shows including a headline tour of the UK and Ireland. They’ve supported everyone from Mike Watt (Minutemen) and Marnie Stern to Lightning Bolt and Action Beat and were picked by both Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson as highlights of the 6Music festival in Bristol (they played twice). The Guardian have described them as “Savages like post-punk, but with more violent grunge riffing and slightly better singing”.

Shoun Shoun

(EP launch)

Shoun Shoun’s expansive sound blends dream pop and garage rock with the urban ennui of Dietrich and the Velvets. The band's urgent grooves are laced with conspiratorial vocals and lysergic flurries of violin and synth.

After years of battling ferocious noise, Annette Berlin (Big Joan, Male, The Final Age) felt an uncontrollable urge to connect in a more intimate way. She called time on existing projects and wrote prolifically: songs of alienation, redemption and the emptiness at the end of the party.

Bringing the songs to dramatic life are musicians whose collective CV includes Bristol greats like The Moonflowers, Mooz, Patrick Duff and Chikinki.

Official launch of Shoun Shoun’s currently untitled debut EP. Copies of the EP will be available to buy at the venue.
