VACANT SHORES:

MY CHLOROFORM:
My Chloroform was formed in 2008 by Kate and Richard Sparkes and were later joined by Emma Holbrook. Their intention was to create a fresh new sound by combining rhythmic elements of trip hop with the psychedelic sounds of synths and guitars more reminiscent of early Pink Floyd and 80s cult band Japan, with further influences from Massive Attack, Portishead and Unkle.
Kayla Painter works with sounds to create electronic music which lends itself well to visual art, film, and animation. In her solo visual work she uses lights and found materials to play with the relationship between sound and image. In her composition work she aims to write unique music, sharing and interpreting the artists vision.
Live, Kayla plays her original compositions through a program called Ableton Live using midi controllers. Her music could be described as ambient, bass heavy, and plays with interesting rhythms. Drawing influences from her biggest heroes, The Beatles, Kayla's work is accessible and humorous, but is still rigorous and stands up to other dance-floor musical genres.
