Nile Robinson, The Special Brew + more

Barry Jitter tried going sober, but he couldn't hack it. His new edition of "Barry Jitter Presents" is centred around the one genre of music aside from EDM that you have to be leglessly plastered to enjoy: folk.

He has picked a few of his favourites from across the desolate wastes of this once musically fruitful isle to play gospel at the biggest church in town - the Old E - on what will be a very special Friday night.

Nile Robinson
Embark on a musical journey with Nile Robinson, the headline act playing original folk, country, and other ancient guitar sounds around Bristol, England. Described as a dark-eyed and trembling hyena, Nile is a bone-hungry killer on stage, a matador in an age extinct of bulls. Feel the energy as he weaves tales of a bygone era, showcasing his prowess as a live wire and a true storyteller (Headfirst). Tonight he will perform with a specially improvised backing band. He's also a family man, I've been told.

The Special Brew
Barry Jitter is the self-described “antifolk heir to the Bedminster fortune.” Penman to a set of songs only able to be categorised three ways: LOVE, INTOXICANTS, or HANGING FROM A ROPE. And it only gets better when he has his Special Brew, the rotating cast of “musicians” act as the shambolic actualisation incarnate of his strange and unique world. Percussionista Sleazy and bassist Oli O-Ring transform the usually deregulated off-kilter folk into a hearty mixture of country, punk and jangle pop. The looseness is the unique selling point: “Barry Jitter, always different, always the same.”

Jake Ovenden
Yo Hablo frontman Jake E. Ovenden will attempt to snakecharm the Old E by sedating the high energy psych-punk python of Yo Hablo into something slightly more affable and akin to a stoned earthworm. He will stand alone, because this pub ain't big enough for the both of us. Will he succeed? If it's pistols at noon and Jake is at the other end of the saloon I'd put good money on it.

Jayden Vandersluys
Jayden Vandersluys sings circular songs in favour of artists like John Jacob Niles and Natasha Bedingfield as a reminder that you aren't alone on your nightshift. He plays the six-string guitar-a-phone and wears M&S boxers. Trust me, I've seen them.
