Prepare yourselves for a ritualistic night of soundscapes, as we showcase an enchanting array of black metal/post-metal, fused with jazz, drone, and ambiance.
Featuring Poland-based drone-black metallers THAW, alongside London born FIVE THE HIEROPHANT following their triumphant Desertfest '18 appearance, and fellow Polish drone peddlers ARRM.
Hyperactive band since its creation in 2010 with 3 Full lengths albums, and a lot of EP's, Demos and Split albums. Thaw is a dark massive wall of sound, dissonant and opressive. The band uses massive droning moment and combines it with Black Metal blasbeats intensity and dissonant riffs, creating a unique sound.
The new album is recorded and will be released on December 8th on Agonia Records.
After the split with Echoes Of Yul, Thaw once again veers into the ambient/improvisation/drone territory with "St. Phenome Alley", despite being widely regarded as a black metal band (although noisy and experimental). It's a sort of getaway, yet it never feels forced, and evokes just the right amount of disarming discomfort while still being perfectly accessible and interesting.
The tape consists of two completely improvised tracks, both recorded even before the amazingly well-received sophomore album, Earth Ground, and their extensive European tour alongside Behemoth and Bolzer.
An instrumental group whose insanely heavy debut album "Over Phlegathon" was released last year and is easily one of the best albums of the year. They're set to steal the show at this year's Desertfest when they play the Electric Ballroom right before Eyehategod. Blackened, atmospheric, post-metal, jazz - there's no pigeon-holing this five-piece.
A group created by musicians known from post-black metal band Thaw. Their self-titled record consists of five instrumental tracks recorded largely live and reminiscent of early Barn Owl and "Hex" era Earth.
ARRM came to life in 2010 as a solo project of guitarist Artur Rumiński (Thaw, Furia). "First it was only me but as time went by I decided to expand ARRM, first by adding bass player Rafał Miciński. Then Maciej Śmigrodzki (Thaw) came to replace him and we even managed to play some concerts supporting Nadja and Mamiffer", recalls Rumiński. "A couple of our tracks got released as part of cassette split with Stara Rzeka and Innercity Trio but at the end of 2012 ARRM went on a hiatus so that we could concentrate on other projects. It lasted until March 2016 and brought some personal changes – we welcomed back Rafał Miciński, Maciej Śmigrodzki switched to keyboards and drummer Michał Leks joined the band".
ARRM was recorded in Maq Records Studio under the supervision of Haldor Grunberg (Thaw). "We managed to record the whole album live during one weekend", says Rumiński. "Before entering the studio we only had two demo versions of 'Pinewood' and 'Grave' but those were scrapped in favor of the newer ones. If I were to find a common ground for those five tracks I would point to an obvious lack of haste that allowed us to concentrate on specific sounds", he adds.
