In The Making: Youth Power & Commoning

In The Making: Youth Power & Commoning at The Spark Space

An event on Saturday 24th October. The event starts at 19:00.

Youth Power
What becomes possible when young people are resourced, supported and trusted to lead? What happens when generations come together, share what they know, and start building the worlds they want to live in?

On Saturday 24th October, Transition Together’s Youth Circle are bringing their short film In the Making to Bristol for an evening of youth power, collective imagination and commoning.

The film shares stories from young people across the UK finding their own ways into social movements, navigating the tensions of trying to live by their values, and figuring out what it takes to make change happen. It’s about the things we’re learning, the things we’re questioning, and what we can create when we don’t have to do it alone.

More Than A Film Screening

But this isn’t just a film screening. It’s an invitation to come together, get curious and explore what we can make possible when we show up for one another.

We’ll share food, take part in embodied practices inspired by Joanna Macy’s The Work That Reconnects, make space for one-to-one sharing, and connect across generations. Together, we’ll explore how we nurture young people’s passion into action, build leaderful communities, and share the power, care and responsibility needed to create lasting change.

The evening is a collaboration between Transition Together’s Youth Circle and The Bristol Commons, bringing youth power into conversation with the practice of commoning: finding ways to care for, create and make decisions about the spaces, resources and relationships that sustain us.

## What does commoning have to do with it?

Bristol is full of things worth holding on to. Its green spaces, community projects, city farms, independent culture, grassroots networks and the people who make things happen.

But how do we make sure these things can survive and thrive? How do we move beyond simply sharing a city towards actively shaping its future together?

Commoning is about putting collective care into practice. It’s about building the relationships, shared resources and community power that allow us to look after what matters, together.

The Bristol Commons is a growing network of people, organisations and community groups exploring what this could look like in practice. Coexist and The Bristol Commons are working alongside studio holders, space users and local residents to bring the building into the commons, with one year to raise the funds and a community share offer in preparation.

Because the places and spaces that bring us together matter. And the people who use them should have a say in their future.

## Come as you are

Whether you’re already involved in community organising, curious about commoning, finding your feet in a movement, or simply wondering what it might look like to create change with others, there’s space for you here.

Tickets include a nourishing shared meal, teas, coffees and snacks. Proceeds go towards paying the young people organising the event and supporting future In the Making screenings across the UK.

We want money to be as little of a barrier as possible, so we’re offering three ticket prices:

* £5 · Reduced-price ticket for young people (16 - 26 years)
* £8.50 · Reduced-price ticket for those on a low income, or anyone who needs a cheaper option.
* £12 · Standard ticket to help cover the costs of bringing the evening together.
* £15+ · Pay-it-forward ticket for those who can contribute a little extra to help keep reduced-price tickets available.

Choose whichever feels right for your circumstances. There’s no need to explain your choice. Everyone is equally welcome, and we want to make sure there’s space for everyone.

Tickets will also be available on the door.

Come watch, eat, connect, question, imagine and explore what we can build when we do it together.

We’re all in the making.
