SWIG + Sylvia&I + Sponge
A gig on Monday 6th October. The event starts at 20:00.
South West Improvisers Group (SWIG) host two distinctive improvising duos from across the U.K. - each will perform a short set before joining regular SWIG members for an extended set of spontaneous music-making.

then we thought lets make a band
a band that plays songs with words of just one sound

but what can we call this band?
we call our band sponge
and how do we say "sponge"?
SAH - PAH - NAH - GEE!
and this makes us laugh.
I imagine that we will be mostly improvising together. This will be our introduction to the world as Sponge after gestating towards this event like a long pupae stage for 40 years.

The collaboration of Norwich-based trumpeter Chris Dowding and London-based violinist and multi-instrumentalist Sylvia Hallett, Sylvia & I is a duo based around extended dreamy pieces made from overlapping loops.
Both musicians use looping as well as other pedals, and Sylvia & I have performed around the UK, including at Full of Noises (Barrow-in-Furness), for the 25th Anniversary celebration of Confront Recordings (Bethnal Green), and as part of the Intraspect series curated by Bill Thompson (University of Surrey). Individually, they have worked with Evan Parker, Annie Whitehead & others.
This gig will be part of a tour launching a CD release that will only be available in person or at gigs. The only format they have repeated in their plethora of physical releases was the cassette release of 'the holding breath' (sold out) and the subsequent remix EP of that album (available), the latter of which features a remix by Squid trumpeter/bassist Brother Laurie (available on Bandcamp & cassette only).
