WORD OF MOUTH Presents
IAN SILLS (Poet) & Shaun McCrindle with compere Bertel Martin (Free Entry)
Word of Mouth is a free event held on the first Wednesday of the month at The Thunderbolt focusing on'storytelling in verse, prose and song'. We aim to provide an informal atmosphere where poets, authors, artists and musicians can meet and exchange ideas. All welcome.
Tonight! we are delighted to welcome Singer songwriter SHAUN McCRINDLE has fronted a number of bands in Bristol and has also played guitar with Ninja Tunes artist, John Matthias, and Bristol band, the Blue Aeroplanes. He has writing credits on albums by both these artists and has also performed live with them at the Womad Festival and the Georges Pompidou Centre, in Paris. Venue magazine said of Shaun's latest album Come Around: 'Wry humour and faultless musical chops highlight this second album from Bristol's McCrindle as a cut above the rest. ' The Bristol Evening Post described Shaun's style as'Quirky songs, influenced by pop, rock, folk and country music'
IAN SILLS is a middle aged Mancunian accountant who discovered the joy of performance poetry after moving to Bristol in 1994. He has since performed at venues in London, Leicester, Leamington Spa and in other places not beginning with L. He has won (and mainly lost) poetry slams, contributed to a book of poems and photographs of Bristol and co-created a book of poetry commemorating the Streets Alive festival. He has been involved in the organisation of the long-running Acoustic Night - now in its sixth year at Halo Caf Bar on Gloucester Road but in existence for a decade before it reached its current venue for more than ten years, and can usually be found there every other Monday writing up a blog, bemoaning the lack of money in poetry or attempting to heckle the more experienced performers. He is not musical enough to be a rock star, funny enough to be a stand up comic nor artistic enough to be Poet Laureate, but his poetry happily occupies the ample space in between and is not coming out. The evening will be compered by Bertel Martin and we'll be starting at 8pm With Valentine's Day approaching we've loosely themed the evening around the subject of love. And hate. We await Rosemary's and Amy's interpretation with interest.
