See event details

A event held at The Trinity Centre on Friday 12th April. The event starts at 14:00.

Multi-disciplinary artist Shrouk El-Attar has undergone 2 weeks of Research and Development for their latest project Dancing Queer. A 60 minute performance piece fusing story-telling, lived experiences of queer refugees and asylum seekers, Arabic music, belly-dance, drag and performance.

This collaborative theatre piece aims to bring to light the untold stories of LGTBQIA+ refugees and immigrants, centering those who have experienced persecution and displacement because of who they are and who they love.

Dancing Queer is created with and by immigrant and refugee creatives, the show aims to disrupt the negative dialogue on the queer refugee community often the focus in mainstream media and instead add to the growing vocalisation of positive, queer refugee stories.

Funded generously by Arts Council England and Grand Plan with support from Watershed, Pride Without Borders and Glitter Cyrmu, the journey of Dancing Queer has been one of exploration, creativity, and collaboration.
