Tonight we share a 1 hour mid-winter sound bath concert with Bristol-based contemporary vocal project Murmuration Choir, directed by vocal yoga teacher Isolde Lachlan, with live gong from music therapist Sula Deane. This is an opportunity to take a break from the holiday chaos and immerse yourself in the healing sound of vocal harmony, poetry and guided meditation, interwoven with soundscapes, asmr, theruptic instruments, and re-imagined contemporary choral pieces that explore belonging, love, nature connection, rest and dreaming.

You do not need to do anything but lie down on a yoga mat and be physically surrounded by a warm cocoon of 70 voices, in the beautiful setting of Trinity Centre's Fyfe Hall, with ambient projections from Gavin Brokis.

Participants will be led through gentle, accessible movements to allow you to settle fully in and out of relaxation, and there will be the opportunity to join us in simple sound making to reawaken you back into a refreshed state, ready to face the demands of the holiday season.

Herbal teas will be available from the Trinity bar afterwards.

What to Bring:

This is a lying-down event. Wear something comfortable, and bring extra layers + softness to keep you warm and cosy. Yoga mats are provided, but please feel free to bring an additional mat for extra comfort.

What is a ‘sound bath’?

A ‘sound bath’ is a term used in the world of sound healing to describe the experience of being surrounded by beautiful, calming, therapeutic sounds, usually with the recipient lying down and passively receiving. The specific intention from the sound practitioner is to encourage relaxation in the recipient’s nervous system, and to generate release from physical, mental and emotional tension in the body, which promotes healthy cell rejuvenation and a sense of increased wellbeing.

How does sound do this?

Before sound becomes something that we 'hear', it is first physical vibration. It literally moves us, and affects subtle to profound changes in our bodies. You don’t even need to be able to hear it to be affected by it. Sound waves are used widely in medical hospitals to treat cancer, ultra sound is commonly used to monitor the development of babies in the womb and, the ‘woo’ in crystals is actually the sound frequency they emit from their tightly packed particles. Sound is the first sense that we develop in the womb, and our relationship with sound - especially the voice - not only takes us back to this original experience of safety, but also right back to our evolutionary origins, where as fish we navigated the waters with felt sound vibration.

Why should I go to a sound bath?

In our post-pandemic world, we are needing more spaces to process, heal, connect and give our bodies what they are needing as a collective. It is no coincidence that the medium of ‘the sound bath’ is becoming increasingly popular, therefore. In times of crisis, we often turn to music to see us through, and the pandemic was no exception - our sound bath video of Bjork's 'All is Full of Love' received over 10K views during this time. The beauty of a sound bath, is that we can bring intention into this process, and draw the full power and potential of music deep into our cells and being through using sound as meditation and ceremony, without all the distractions and social expectations of a ‘usual’ gig experience.

‘Deep-Rest’, not ‘Depressed’

In the natural world, mid-winter is a time of slowing down, hibernating and dreaming into the next seasonal cycle. A big reason why we get ‘depressed’ during this time, is because we often are not allowing ourselves this ‘deep-rest’. This is why it's the perfect time for things like sound baths, to respond to the underlying needs of the season.

3 x Sound Bath Timings

There are 3 sound bath timings to choose from, with 15 mins before and after to get cosy and / or rise without rush. Herbal teas will be available afterwards, if you wish to stay warm & gentle before heading back out into the world:

Sound Bath 1 - 5.30 - 6.30 pm *
Sound Bath 2 - 7 - 8 pm
Sound Bath 3 - 8.30 - 9.30 pm

* Additional tickets for Sound Bath 1 are available via the trinity website:

You can find out more about the choir via our website (murmurationchoir.co.uk) and / or follow us on instagram or facebook @murmurchoir.

N.B.

We are not able to admit attendees arriving after the start time. Please arrive 15 minutes before your time, and leave 15 minutes after.

Due to the very unique experience of being encricled by a choir, we are not able to host as many audience members in these performances, hence the 3 smaller sittings.

Due to the fact that our singers are not elevated and there is a need to see one-another + conducting in the dim lighting, this is a lying-down / chair-less seated event.

This event will be photographed, and by taking part you are agreeing to having your image used, for our sound bath promotion purposes only.

Each ticket price includes a levy that goes towards the rebuilding costs of Trinity's roof.

Children 7+ are welcome to attend if accomanpanied by an adult, and able to remain quiet / still for the duration.

Please turn phones off for the duration of the performance.

With thanks, Murmuration Choir x
