A
gig
held at The Trinity Centre
on Wednesday 29th January. The event starts at 19:30.
London’s newest afrobeat innovators KOKOROKO take the spirit of West African experimentation and fuse it with the UK’s leading jazz community. Featuring trumpet, saxophone, trombone, guitar, keys, bass and a whole range of percussion, the eight-piece create grooves with added grit.
Their name is an Orobo – a Nigerian tribe and language – word meaning ‘be strong’ and there’s certainly a powerful force behind their musical drive. Drawing as much from nightlife, the musical influences of West African Pentecostal churches, jazz and Western classical, the band’s impulse to create comes from asking: “what does this music sound like for my generation?”
