DUBSTEP HOUSE GARAGE TROPICAL BASS

FRIDAY 11TH MARCH

THEKLA BRISTOL

10PM-4AM

D1

[Dub Police/Tempa]

http://www.myspace.com/d1dj

D1 is responsible for a number of now seminal releases from the early days of dubstep's now illustrious history, including'Missin' and the triptych of EPs for Tempa, 'V1', 'V2' and'V3'. Remaining at the core of the rapidly expanding scene all this time, D1's music has continually evolved, refusing to repeat what has been done before. Drawing upon his virtuoso musicality, Marsh has increasingly explored the melodic and emotive side of his music while staying true to the tough rhythms and impactful bass weight of UK bass music.

Drawing upon the whole of the UK's vast underground musical heritage, Marsh melds together a diverse array of influences into his sound, deconstructing UKG, Funky, jungle and dubstep and rebuilding them into his own unique sound. After several successful years at Tempa, D1 signed to Caspa's Dub Police label in 2008, and hasn't looked back since. With a number of releases already under his belt for the label, Marsh has big plans for the new year. Eager to get as much music out this year as possible and showcase his adroit skills on the decks to audiences everywhere, you can be sure that you will be hearing a lot more from D1 over the coming months.

UK based dubstep/garage producer Arthur Cayzer who has released a single, Detroit Falls, and an EP, Safehouses on the legendary dance label R&S Records. He has also provided licensed remixes for media darlings The xx and illustrious RnB/Soul vocalists Erykah Badu and Brandy. Cayzer has been gaining vocal supporters such as BBC Radio 1 DJ and electronic music evangelist Mary Anne Hobbs and contributed a mix to her show. Like label mate James Blake, he has garnered praise from influential sources such as Pitchfork and Resident Advisor and is considered one of the central producers in a new wave of British dance music being labelled by some as post-dubstep.

ALEXANDER NUT

[Rinse FM/Elgo Records]

http://rinse.fm/alexandernut

Alex Nut can be found hosting Rinse FM's Saturday afternoon show, where he focuses more on the hip-hop influenced side of the dubstep genre. Whereas some journalists have attempted to coin this sound as"wonky" due to the heavily swung beats, Nut is of a firm belief that all of the music that he plays is firmly rooted in hip-hop and soul.
