Impact73 ⚪ Bristol Connect: how to accurately measure social impact

Impact73 ⚪ Bristol Connect: how to accurately measure social impact at Torchbox - 3rd Floor, 15 Colston St, Bristol, England, BS1 5AP (venue has a lift)

An event on Tomorrow. The event starts at 18:00.

For our 82nd event, we return to Torchbox to discuss the tricky topic of measuring social impact.

Social impact is one of the hardest forms of impact to measure accurately - so much is anecdotal / based on people's perceptions of how they feel; and whilst you may think you have an obvious set of metrics against which to measure progress (e.g. Andy Burnham's pledge to end homelessness by Christmas), how do you understand the actual impact of your actions (and how these very actions can change the very nature of the problem you are seeking to solve)?

This follows on from our events earlier this year: 'moving from talking to doing', and will consider a number of related issues outlined in a little more detail here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-accurately-measure-social-impact-pt1-tim-edwards-frsa-kkc9e -- this pre-reading (7 minutes) is not essential, but it will give you more context of what we will be discussing on the day. If you do not have LinkedIn and want to read the article, get in touch.

A SLOW-BURNING CAULDRON OF INSIGHTS, IDEAS & INNOVATION
==============================
We gather the super-curious 1% of people (interdisciplinary/ generalist/ critical thinker/ problem-solver) + key ecosystem players;

GUEST SPEAKERS! We would love to hear from you if you are interested in giving a short talk (15 min + Q&A) around either (a) a problem [faced by you/ a community] or (b) a solution [that you think plays a part in solving things]. Very often, the solutions to your problems lie in the problems of others.

Chicken soup for the soul

Calm but stimulating, positive but with challenge, welcoming without an expectation of conformity. A place where interdisciplinary minds feel valued and great connections are fostered

MEMBERS' CHARTER
==============================
Everyone deserves to feel safe and unthreatened whilst engaging with a diverse range of people on a range of issues which are often not straightforward (and where what is 'right' will vary from person to person). That said, due to the nature of the conversations, you should expect: the potential for conflict; to hear views that do not align with your own; and wording which may be poorly articulated (as people try to unpack challenging topics). This list is not exhaustive but, during my interactions with the Impact73 ⚪ community, I commit to being the kind of person who:
- Respects and values: diversity, debating, questioning, challenging, learning, integrity, psychological safety (and, so long as it aligns with these principles, freedom of speech);
- Prioritises: solutions over problems; suggestions and nudges over criticisms; people as being human first;
- Is: kind, considerate, respectful, encouraging, thoughtful, supportive, listening, exploring, understanding, curious;
- Does not engage in: judging, blaming, arguing, gaslighting, grandstanding, selling/ spamming, activism**, misinformation, click-bait, sensationalism, harassment or intimidation;
=- Has an open mind: someone who actively tries to prove myself wrong, seeking opposing views to stress-test my ideas and beliefs.

** this group is not for “vigorous campaigning”, the focus should be on understanding, learning, educating and inspiring.
