held at To The Moon
on Thursday 5th May. The event starts at 19:00.
POLR is back at To The Moon for more beautiful music. This month sees some extraordinary songwriting and performance from Ryde and T.E. Yates. Plus as always, it’ll be hosted by the wonderfully talented Fritillaries.
Ryde is the new musical collaboration between jazz singer Bronte Shande and folk musician Arran Glass.
After meeting in Bristol during a turbulent time in both their lives, the collaboration that followed saw their individual styles of playing and singing blend beautifully to create a completely new sound. Ryde consequently lies somewhere between folk and jazz. Intriguing, vulnerable lyrics blend with raw and fragile harmonies over minimal and melancholic guitar.
T.E. Yates
Unassuming, unusual and enigmatic, T.E. Yates is a multi-disciplinary artist of rare and disarming qualities that must be seen and heard to be believed.
His new EP Strange Weather continues the feverishly eclectic stylings of his previous records whilst maintaining the songwriting prowess and wry honesty that have won him plaudits from radio, press, peers and fans alike. His unique sound weaves effortlessly through Americana, Folk, Old-Time, 60s Pop, 70s Songwriters, Post-Punk, Rock and even Jazz and Ragtime.
As is commonplace nowadays, T.E. Yates will be joined by old-time fiddler Joe Mansfield on violin and viola.
According to Alabaster dePlume - “T.E. Yates is a beautiful character. He’s not quite like the rest of us... He presents us with absolutely nothing but himself. He aspires to no grandeur. He offers, simply, his very soul.”
Fritillaries
Americana instrumentation, folksy rootedness and a pop song sensibility; Fritillaries’ music is sometimes upbeat and gnarly, sometimes slow and contemplative, and always original and engaging. Playing together since childhood, they share a unique intimacy and ability to draw audiences into their world. Their debut album - about places and people missed and found in isolation, and things found growing when we dig down into spaces the light doesn’t reach - will be released on 15th July 2022 on Pear O’ Legs Records.
“A delight ... theirs is an emotional and intense music that needs concentration and the audience obliges, hanging onto and appreciating every word, as shown by the prolonged applause between songs." RnR Magazine
