No Bags, Just Bangers - Galleries Free Party - A Love Letter to Broadmead at Unit One
See event details

A gig on Sunday 3rd May. The event starts at 14:00.

Drop the shopping bags and get your best shapes out!

Produced by young people in partnership with groups from Strangebrew and Ujima, the No Bags, Just Bangers Galleries Free Party will transform part of the Galleries into a music event.

From 2pm, audiences will nestle alongside shoppers to enjoy the sounds of Unit Ujima, or immerse themselves in the audio-visual treats in a takeover of Unit One.

At 5pm, when the Galleries closes to the public, the space between the two units will become a dedicated dance floor, performance space, and hangout.

Partners Bleep Klub, Bristol Live Techno Society, We All Play Synth, and Esher Music have hand-picked some of their fave musicians to share their platform with some of Bristol's budding musical talent.

Using their music as muse, our young people have hand-selected artists that represent a new wave of Bristol electronic music, for your enjoyment, in Unit One.

From Unit Ujima, special broadcasts and DJ sets from a range of the stations best musical talent including DJ Style, Krazy, Dancehall Generals, and more!

So dust off your dancing shoes and be part of this city moment, as Bristol re-invents this most kitsch of urban spaces, and consumer units become corners of culture for one night only.

About A Love Letter To Broadmead

Unfolding across April and culminating over the early May Bank Holiday weekend, A Love Letter to Broadmead will see a takeover of empty units and shop windows, bringing fresh energy into the city centre; a growing invitation to experience Broadmead in a different light, through creativity, connection, performance and unexpected moments in the heart of the city.

The project has been born out of conversations with local people. Pounding the pavements across December and early Jan, the Compass team visited every business in Broadmead and had exciting chats with the cultural organisations in the area, ultimately recruiting a pool of young people to lead and deliver the project alongside us.

The heartbeat of the project is the first floor of the galleries, in the old Captain Kandy (check spelling) shop, now “Unit Ujima” with its cool tiled flooring and floor to ceiling widows, and the old Vertigo VR shop (now “Unit One”, with tons of space for hangouts and performances. Plus hangout and chilling space in the wide area outside Boots.

Spaces are limited so snap them up early - they are all Free!

We are reimagining the city. It is Broadmead, but not as you know it.
