See event details

A event held at Bookhaus on Thursday 5th June. The event starts at 12:30.

Authors Tristan Hughes & Tyler Keevil will fittingly launch their canoe from near the Nova Scotia pub in Bristol at 3.00pm on Thursday 5 June after a lunchtime signing at Bookhaus.
They then launch their two books at Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights at 7.00pm on Friday 6 June
Tristan Hughes’ novel Boundary Waters blends the grit of a Western, the tenderness of a coming-of-age narrative and an unexpected love story. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the early 19th-century Canadian fur trade, the novel promises to enthral readers who enjoy tales of epic journeys and high-stakes adventure...

Take Three Canadians: Four Stories, Three Writers and an Artist includes four mesmerising short stories by Tristan Hughes, Tyler Keevil, Gail Hughes and Catrin Menai. They are interwoven with images and memory as ideas of your place in the world shifts across tides of time and energy, people and place.

Readers can meet both authors before they launch their Canadian canoe down the Avon at a lunchtime book signing at Bookhaus Bristol from 12.30pm – 1.30pm on Thursday 5 June 2025 – just turn up; no need to book. Presented by bookhaus

Tristan Hughes was born in Aitkokan, northern Ontario, Canada. He grew up between Canada and Ynys Mon, an island off the coast of Wales. After education in UK and Canada he began writing short stories, winning the Rhys Davies award. He then published award-winning novels set both in Wales and Canada. The story in this book, Up Here, won an O.M. Henry award for the best short fiction of north America. He is the only Welsh person to be awarded the honour. He is a senior lecturer at Cardiff University.

Tyler Keevil arrived in Aberystwyth to further his journey of becoming a writer in the first years of the new century. He wrote stories and novels about the life he knew on the West coast of Canada. His works include No Good Brother, Fireball and Burrard Inlet. The story in this book, Seal Skin, won the Journey Prize on publication. He now lives in the border country of Wales with his wife Naomi and their two children.
