"Sell out warning! The greatest entry in the 80s NYC via medieval Highlands time-travelling, sword-swinging, sci-fi canon ... on the biggest screen in town. Sean Connery trying to be Spanish, Christopher Lambert trying to be Scottish, Clancey Brown’s unstoppable heavy metal menace, deliciously contextual Queen anthems – Highlander is just goddamn amazing. Don’t lose your head!"

Dir: Russell Mulcahy | United States | 116 mins | Cert. 15
From 16th century Scotland to the mean streets of 1980s New York, Highlander follows the first adventure of immortal warrior Connor MacLeod, a film that would go on to spawn four sequels, three TV spinoff, an animated series, comic books and more - not to mention a remake that is currently being filmed with Henry Cavill.
After surviving a wound that should have killed him during a clan battle in the Scottish Highlands in 1536, Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) is banished from his village. Years later, he is met by Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery), a swordsman informs him that he is an Immortal, one of a race of many who can only die when the head is cut from the body.
He must fight his way through the centuries until the time of the gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the ages will come together to fight until only one remains.
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!
With its iconic Queen soundtrack, stylish direction from Australian music video director Russell Mulcahy (Razorback) and insane casting choices (Sean Connery as an Egyptian-Spaniard?!), Highlander is a special kind of magic.
For this 40th anniversary screening, we’ll be joined by Jonathan Melville, author of six books about film and TV, including A Kind of Magic: Making the Original Highlander, Seeking Perfection: The Unofficial Guide to Tremors and the forthcoming Art & Making of Highlander from Titan Books (out September 2026) to discuss the cult classic, its sequels and the franchise's enduring legacy.
