Trumpeter Andy Hague presents a new line-up for a new era. Originally conceived as a fantasy football league project for possible recording, there is suddenly the possibility of actually playing a live gig. The music will be a mixture of fresh Hague originals composed during lockdown combined with some less commonly played standards.
Pianist Jonathan Taylor has taught alongside Andy at the Falmouth [En Rapport] Jazz summer school for a number of years, and Andy particularly wanted a chance to play with Jon outside the teaching environment. Jon currently runs the Guildhall School's junior jazz department in London, and was a founder member of one of the UK's leading tango ensembles Tango Siempre.
Bassist Henrik Jensen is originally from Denmark, and has recently moved to Frome after living in London for many years. He has toured the world from Tokyo to Moscow with various modern jazz projects and also as part of the band for close harmony group The Puppini Sisters. Henrik formed his quartet Followed By Thirteen in 2010, and they have recently released a new CD "Affinity."
Drummer Gwilym Jones received the coveted Tony Levin Award whilst studying at Birmingham Conservatoire, and has since gone on to complete an MA at Trinity Laban. Becoming recognised as one of the most exciting young drummers on the scene, Gwilym has toured with pianist Olly Chalk's trio and in November will be presenting his own trio project at the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Andy's previous quintet CD Coming Of Age received four-star reviews in both Jazzwise and Jazz Journal. “it's the variety of the musical structures deployed, as well as the sheer spirit and fire in these performances that makes this a significant milestone for Hague and his chums” – Peter Vacher, Jazzwise. “So impressed with this record, wow, it’s current, it’s hip” – Linley Hamilton, BBC Radio Ulster’s Jazz World.
