A event held at The Ill Repute on Thursday 13th November. The event starts at 20:00.

“Life is beautiful. Really, it is. Full of beauty and illusions. Life is great.”

This November, we’re venturing deep into the strange, sticky heart of small-town America with Harmony Korine’s Gummo. Set in a tornado-blasted Ohio suburb, the film drifts through the lives of kids and outcasts killing time however they can; bleaching hair, shooting BB guns, wrestling in filthy kitchens, and wandering through ruins that feel both real and dreamlike.

Shot on grainy 16mm and edited like a fever dream, Gummo is less a story than a collage - moments of absurdity, heartbreak, and dark humour stitched together with a punk spirit and a Madonna track. It’s disturbing, tender, and one of the most original pieces of 90s cinema you’ll ever see.

Whether you think it’s genius, trash, or both (and it is), Gummo is an experience that crawls under your skin and stays there. Come see why it’s still dividing audiences nearly 30 years on.
