Benin International Musical at The Jam Jar

A gig held at The Jam Jar on Wednesday 29th July. The event starts at 20:00.

The Jam Jar is proud to present a Bristol debut for Benin International Musical - a Cotonou collective who have rocked the world over the last decade with their timeless sound. Influenced by the enduring legacy of Vodou worship dance, BIM blend traditional Beninese rhythms with Afro-funk, guitar fuzz, hip hop vocal chops, gospel power and radio-ready anthems.

The Jam Jar Presents:
Benin International Musical
Wednesday 29th July
8pm
The Jam Jar, Bristol

BIM pays tribute to the music of the forebears of Dahomey. It reflects both traditional ceremonies and the trendy clubs of Cotonou, extending to Evangelical churches and the convents where voodoo deities are invoked.

Associating voodoo rhythms and traditional songs, electronic melodies in the very spicy Beninese style with trip-hop grooves, hip hop, and rock, this collective of Beninese artists has all it takes to make us travel.

Around the music, BIM, as an entity, has also developed an education and training project offering Beninese artists and cultural actors practical workshops on recording, computer-assisted music, video, photography and the media, with funding from Radio France, TV5 Monde, and other cultural institutions.

Entry requirements: 14+, any under 18s accompanied by 21+ adult 1:1 ratio
