“When I think of Angela Davis, I think of social justice. Although much of her notoriety comes from a time before my own, that time directly influenced my quality of life. Much of the awareness created by Davis’ voice and unwavering courage has had undeniable positive ripples throughout the fabric of black America and the world as a whole. As a black woman and feminist Davis’ strength is truly inspiring, reminding me that there are leaders who look like me too. And no matter who you are or where you are from, you can make a difference and change the world for the better by staying true to yourself.

Angela reminds us all to open our minds to our own truth, we are all human. Her actions have always been pointed towards radical change starting from the inside out. She calls out to us to remember our roots and remember our mothers. With a pivotal perspective Angela Davis continues to heighten the collective awareness through connecting the dots between race, politics, gender, and culture. Her unrelenting drive to create a drastically more inclusive world has made finding a place in the world for me, a gay, black female, an easier endeavor and for that I am truly grateful.”

The Event:

Wait…What? The spanking new Ibiza/UK queer kid off the block party everyone is talking about close their 2020 Summer Party theme which celebrates and honours as well as raising awareness to, six activists fighting for six different causes. – it also gives their Wait Watchers (the tongue in cheek moniker of a WW follower) the opportunity to donate money if they wish to. Taking inspiration from vogue/ballroom culture the six party’s have been titled “THE HOUSE OF ——-“

Their final LIVE party “The House Of Angela Davis” honours the American political activist, philosopher, academic, and author. The Wait...What ? Family debut at Lakota Gardens which is an open air venue situated in Lakota Nightclubs former courtyard.

Expect an electrifying POC, BAME, LGBTQ Wait...What ? event to close this Summers 2020 party theme of honouring activists and bringing awareness to the causes they fight for. ✊️‍

A poignant Black Joy Video Project showcasing Black Women/Womxn to be screened directed, produced and choreographed performance artist by Manly Mannington,

“We are constantly being bombarded with images of our fellow brothers, sisters and especially black trans siblings who are being murdered. The labour that comes with each trauma, while also trying to navigate through the constructs of whiteness is physically and emotionally draining. I want to change the narrative, provide a place of recovery and give us a space of positivity!! So, I wanted to film a mini video that will be shown at “The House of Angela Davis” event showing black joy and specifically black joy of women/womxn. We more often than not get put into the category of being a “strong black woman/womxn” constantly having to hold the weight of the world, be the backbone to and for everyone and that in itself is quite damaging. So, I wish for it to be positive and happy and also thoughtful event.”
