50 Years of J Dilla performed by SpaceJams

Bristol’s own SpaceJams (Analogue Lounge) host an evening dedicated to one of the greatest beat makers of all time J Dilla.
2024 would have been the year iconic artist J Dilla would have celebrated his 50th birthday. In his brief 32 years James Yancey, otherwise known as Jay-Dee or J-Dilla, created a new sound for Hip-Hop that inspired beat smiths, MCs and music lovers around the globe. His beats went on to dictate the modern landscape of Jazz with bands like BadBadNotGood, Robert Glasper and Alfa Mist using his iconic time-feel. This one-off SpaceJams show will salute Yancey’s crucial input to jazz in 2024.
J Dilla’s iconic catalog ran all way through hip hop’s golden era and saw historic collaborations with Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, Madlib, D’Angelo and Erkyah Badu. His own back catalogue saw a number of iconic releases on Stones Throw Records and London’s BBE Records
